Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to Continental Airlines! We are sure you are very excited and I am here to assist you with your housing needs. I have enclosed a list of frequently asked questions that may answer some of your questions. Should you have additional questions you can e-mail me at david@davidthelocator.com  Please be advised that I am on the Continental CCS website under "Relocation" for future reference. Congratulations and best wishes to you!

The first 14 questions pertain to those starting an internship with the airlines, the last 13 questions pertain to everyone.

  1. Does Continental offer a formal "Housing Program"?

Continental does not offer a formal "Housing Program" per se, but does direct all interns and new hires to contact Continental´s preferred Realtor and relocation specialist, David J. Moore(www.Davidthelocator.com) David is a full-service Realtor and apartment locator and has lived in the Houston area for 40+ years. David has already negotiated special pricing and terms with many apartment communities on Continentals´s behalf and you may contact him to secure the best possible housing options.

  1. Will Continental connect employees with a Relocation Coordinator to locate housing prior to the start of the internship?

Yes. David J. Moore and his staff are available to serve you. You may reach David directly at 281-235-7811.

Will I have to relocate?

At most airlines, relocation is a condition of employment. This does not mean that you will have to sell your home and all of your belongings to become a flight attendant! It will however require some flexibility on your part during the first several months of your flying career. New hire flight attendants will be assigned a base after graduating from training. You will be expected to report for duty from that base, but may live wherever you choose. Over 29% of flight attendants commute to their base city. Also, you will normally be eligible for transfer from your initially assigned base to the base of your choice within the first three to nine months of your employment.

  1. Are one bed room apartments offered for single living?

Yes. Many apartment communities have 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units. Of course, availabilities and pricing are subject to change throughout the year so it is best to contact David as he will have the latest availabilities and pricing. Keep in mind, that there are fewer 3 bedroom apartments than 2 bedroom apartments actually built so availability can be an issue and it is always best to get started on securing housing as far in advance as possible.

  1. Are there facilities that accommodate family housing?

Yes, depending on availability and flexibility offered on lease terms, there will be apartments, lofts and townhomes available for family housing.

  1. Is there a regulation as to how many flight attendants/pilots can occupy one apartment?

Yes. You may not have more than 2 people per bedroom, therefore 2 people for a one bedroom, 4 people for a two bedroom and 6 people for a three bedroom.

  1. Will the apartment or condo offer internet access?

Internet is available at most every apartment community but it is the responsibility of the tenant to pay for their own internet and have it connected in their home. Sometimes, a community will have a business center where internet is available free of charge but if you want internet in your home, you will have to pay for it.

  1. How would you rate the safety of the apartment complex?

Safety is a personal matter. Certainly, there are areas where there are high rates of crime but David will always place you in the best areas possible given your needs, requirements and budget.

  1. Is there a fitness facility on the property?

Depends on the apartment complex you choose. If you prefer a community with a fitness center, then just let David and his team know and they will locate the properties that best fit your needs and requirements.

  1. Will there be a designated study hall?

Not at any of the apartment communities.

  1. Are we required to a sign short term lease?  If so, what is the deposit amount?

Yes. When you occupy and apartment or any other rental unit, a lease will be signed between the tenants and the landlord or property management company. Deposits vary from one complex to the next and depending on specials and other factors, the deposit may vary depending on when you actually lease.

  1. Is parking available?

Parking is not a problem in Houston. Most every apartment complex has more than suitable amount of parking.

  1. Is there an additional charge for parking?

No, there is not additional fee for parking. You may however, in some circumstances, pay for a garage or covered parking as some complexes may offer this type of arrangement. Just call David and he will determine which properties best fit your needs and requirements.

  1. Is the facility near a bus or train line?

Most of the communities are withing walking distance of city buses and you may reference, www.ridemetro.org for routes and fares from a particular location. David has already determined the best possible locations to make this easier for you.

  1. Are there on-site laundry facilities?

Most properties have on-site laundry facilities. Check with David or Marisol on this as it will be case-by-case.

Here are some other things you need to consider and decide on:

1) Where in Houston do you prefer to live -- North, South, East or West?
(The more detailed the better, ie: Pearland, Tomball, Spring, Katy, Kingwood or close to interstate (45, 59, I-10, etc... do you need to have quick access to Beltway 8 or 610?) Do you need to be close to a certain work location or within a certain school district ?

2) How many bedrooms do you require(min) and bathrooms(min) and how many occupants will there be ?

3) Must you have washer/dryer connections in the apartment or are laundry facilities at the property sufficient ? In other words, will you consider doing laundry outside of your apartment and/or do you own your own w/d that you must use ??

4) Are you a first time renter?  A co-signer may be required.  Do you have anyone that would co-sign for you? How is your credit and how much rental history do you have ?

5) Have you ever broken a lease or been evicted or do you owe an apartment complex or any utility company any money ?

6) Do you have any felonies? (Sorry, I have to ask - but I am aware of some complexes that will consider each case.)

7) Do you have any pets? If so, what breed and weight?

8) When can you set aside time to actually view properties with the intention of putting down a  deposit to hold it for a later move in date ? We are available to personally escort you if you would like.

9) When is your scheduled move date? Do you have to move in on a certain date or is your time frame to move flexible ??

10) Please include a preferred price range and maximum price range...... I want to locate the perfect place for you.

11) Will you need rental furniture?

12) Is there anything else you might want or need that would be helpful ?
(garages, fitness center, specific square footage, etc.)

13) Please include your daytime and evening contact phone numbers so we can visit at some point.
